boner

I think I should feel pretty happy right now, and I think I am.
I just got off of the phone with Apple, and in a week or so I will have a new iMac!
Not only will this iMac be new, it will be considerably better than the one it is replacing.
Here are a few differences:
Processor: iMac G5: 1.8 GHz PPC – New iMac: 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo!
Same display
Memory: iMac G5: 2 GB – New iMac: 1GB – This is the only sore spot, but given the fact that I am getting a NEW machine that is a lot better I’m really not gonna cry about this, even though I was told that my 2 GB of RAM would be replaced too. Also, I don’t think the new iMac has VESA mounts like my iMac G5 does, but at this point in time it isn’t a big deal since I’m not using VESA mounts.
Hard Drive: iMac G5: 160 GB – New iMac: 250 GB
Optical Drive: iMac G5: 4x (I think) Superdrive – New iMac: 8x Dual Layer Superdrive!
Graphics: iMac G5: NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 Ultra with 64 MB of DDR SDRAM (8X AGP) – New iMac: ATI Radeon X1600 with 128 MB of GDDR3 (PCI Express)
Video: iMac G5: nothing special – New iMac: built in iSight, and the ability to span my desktop with a 2nd monitor!
Ethernet: iMac G5: 10/100BASE-T – New iMac: 10/100/1000BASE-T (Gigabit)
Wireless: iMac G5: 802.11g Airport Extreme – New iMac: 802.11n Airport Extreme
The New iMac comes with a remote control that my iMac G5 didn’t have, AND I can buy Apple Care for the new machine, which I most certainly will do.
Obviously I am pretty happy right now. I’m just waiting for Apple to email me some stuff I need to fax back to them, and then I need to send my iMac G5 back to Apple and they’ll send me the new Machine.
