It’s like, you’re at work, doing your job, everything is everything, a client comes in, works with you for a while and she leaves you 6.75lbs of M&M’s and you’re thinking work isn’t so bad.
Then she leaves and and the next order you’re working on says to “remove all undereye wrinkles on all pics” and all of a sudden work pretty much sucks.
Of course,knowing that I’ll soon be at Steph’s 25 birthday party makes everything ok again!

If I were to have a web site/photoblog/whatever that just had pics of bums, do you think the bums should be compensated for having their picture taken? If so, how much should they be paid? I’m not talking about a corporate money-making site… I’m talking about a fat lazy guy posting blurry snapshots.

Happiness is having dinner outside on Lincoln Road at Touch on a late January night, and not having to miss South Beach because they have a big ass TV outside, and what do you know, they’re showing South Beach!!!
On the flip side…
Not so much happiness here.

Please don’t let there ever be a point in my life where I find my lips on a garbage dumpster in an alley on South Beach!

I thought this was pretty funny! What’s REALLY funny is that I’ve been to Manhattan Kansas, and if these people can tolerate the boredom that town contains, then Bush’s speech must have been amazingly boring!
Also… What sort of photoblog software are people using? I want something… Uh… Actually, I don’t know exactly what I want. I’m pretty much open right now. But this is what I have found and/or tried so far…
Pixelpost is very close to what I’m after. Version 1.4.3 or whatever feels a little too limited/and maybe even a little antiquated to me, but 1.5 seems like a big step in the right direction. I want to be able to upload full res pics, and have them be shrunk down on the fly (or automatically). Version 1.5 can do this, but until it matures a bit I’m holding off. I have 1.5 installed right now, but it’s having some issues I attribute to its early stages of development. I am moist with anticipation for an update! Also, maybe I did something wrong, but my RSS feed doesn’t display the pictures I post. I want an RSS feed that I can put in a narrow column on my.yahoo.com like my recent comments on my flickr pictures or my buzznet pictures. I added the pixelpost RSS to my.yahoo! just fine, but it just shows the text and a link to each post.
Gallery is too slow and somehow not what I’m looking for. I can’t put my finger on what it is that I don’t like about it. It needs more blog to it. (I realize it’s intent is more gallery, as it’s name would imply)
plogx seems interesting enough, but it might need more blog ingredients added too. The thing that kills it the most for me is the documentation! “plog is a perl-based pictures gallery (or photoblog like do you want” or “Remember, if you need any technical detail about installations, update, or use, not doubt to ask us, we gonna help you as soon we can, ours email in footnote.” Hats off to the people (person?) that developed this… I only know one language, and not very well, so for you to type this stuff up in a non-naitive language is cool, but it’s not something I feel like dealing with right now. I haven’t installed plog yet, but I bookmarked the page and I might try it out when I find some idle time (which shouldn’t be too hard).
pictorialis seems interesting too, and should have a healthy dose of blog in it, but… the fact that the first thing I clicked on, the dev blog, gave me a big error. And how about an official working demo linked from the main page? I’d probably be installing pictorialis right now instead of typing these words if I had seen a demo.
Photoblox… I dislike flash so much! I don’t think this is what I’m after at all. Plus, it looks like it hasn’t been updated since 2004. I’m going to search for more options. PLZ ADVISE!!

Is it ok for me to call homeless people “bums”? Because I’m working on something that I think will be marginally neat, but I don’t want it to be offensive, and I would lose all interest in it if I can’t call them bums.

A month or so ago I read something about The Cereal Bowl I think somewhere on Miamist (I would link to what I read, but my browser tells me “The server at www.miamist.com is taking too long to respond.”.).
Well, I signed up to be notified when The Cereal Bowl was going to actually open, and today I was notified. Cool, right? Yeah, but someone made a mistake and apparently used the To: field instead of the Bcc: field to insert the email addresses. Fortunately, this email appears to have been sent to only 66 people, all with email addresses starting with the letters m-z. I’m sure it was a mistake, and I’m pretty sure The Cereal Bowl caught their mistake, because they sent a second email which I think is identical to the first one, sans visible email addresses.
I just love it when people share my email address with countless strangers!

I woke up this morning and I was instantly bored. I checked the innernets, but it was too early for fresh content, and I had stayed up too late reading everything I had missed during the week. I thought about walking over to the beach, but it wasn’t enticing enough for me to leave my abode. Everyone with snow and ice on the ground is like OMG I would kill to be on the beach right now!!!, but not me.
I think the beach is pretty boring. I suppose it’s ok if you go with friends, but to go alone is just too mellow for me. And when you’re a local, especially an expatriate from Central Washington State, there are certain perils that come with visiting South Beach that a person might not think of. Allow me to indulge…
People tend to show a lot of skin on South Beach and that’s one of the properties that makes it so great. If you feel like seeing bare boobies, you walk over to the beach, and there you go. But this is where problems can arise. Say you’re walking along the beach, minding your own business, not even trying to look at boobs, and all of a sudden you hear “Christian! CHRISTIAN!!!” and you’re like, “What? Is someone calling me??” and you look around to see one of your friends jogging over to meet you at the water’s edge. You talk with your friend for a minute or two and they invite you back to their spot on the beach to hang out for a bit. You oblige, being that you have nothing better to do, and then you’re introduced to your friend’s new girlfriend. And that’s when you realize that she’s topless and you’re very thankful you spent the extra $10 for mirrored lenses on your sunglasses!
OR WORSE…! Imagine bumping into your boss/doctor/mail man/banker/professor/member of the clergy/whoever and they’re topless or wearing a Speedo! TALK ABOUT AWKWARD!!
Now, I’m sure that my upbringing has something to do with my prudeness and such, but I’m sure I’m not the only person who finds it hard to keep the same level of respect for a person once you’ve seen them in such a state of undress.
Anyways, I didn’t go to the beach this morning, so here are 3 pictures I took on the beach on January 1st.

Well, what do you think? I spent a ton of time making this look how it looks. I hope you appreciate/like it. I think I have all of the prerequisite sidebar components. PLZ ADVISE if I forgot any.
But, um… This is where the awesome stuff should be going from now on. I’m working on a set of pictures that I think are kind of cool, and I’ll probably be making/adding a link to that soon enough.
Here’s an example of what I’m working on. I’ll explain it a little more later on.
So, this is what is it and I’m open to suggestions on making it better (and no, losing the pink/green is not going to happen!).

2006 ING Miami Marathon
I stayed up Saturday night because I knew I wouldn’t be able to wake up in time to cheer Jean on as she ran by in the ING Miami half-marathon Sunday morning. When I actually hit Ocean Drive there were zillions of people already there and it would have been the ultimate game of Frogger to get across the street to the place where I said I would be. So, I sat on the curb on the corner of 11th and Ocean and took some pictures of strangers. I never even saw Jean.
