No More Kings

WOW! Today must be my lucky day!
Pretty much every day on my way back to the office after lunch, I buy a bottle of soda from the vending machine at the laundry mat. (what? they’re 30-45 cents cheaper than at the little markets around here!) My first selection on most days is Wild Cherry Pepsi, but it is usually out. Today was no different; SOLD OUT scrolled across the display after I pressed on the Wild Cherry Pepsi button. I hit my usual 2nd choice, Pepsi, and a bottle tumbled out. I grabbed it and continued my walk back to work.
Just now I looked up at my fresh bottle of soda sitting on my desk and noticed that it was Wild Cherry Pepsi! H00RAY!!
(in other words, this is the most spectacular thing I have going on today. Life is so rough.)

I think I should feel pretty happy right now, and I think I am.
I just got off of the phone with Apple, and in a week or so I will have a new iMac!
Not only will this iMac be new, it will be considerably better than the one it is replacing.
Here are a few differences:
Processor: iMac G5: 1.8 GHz PPC – New iMac: 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo!
Memory: iMac G5: 2 GB – New iMac: 1GB – This is the only sore spot, but given the fact that I am getting a NEW machine that is a lot better I’m really not gonna cry about this, even though I was told that my 2 GB of RAM would be replaced too. Also, I don’t think the new iMac has VESA mounts like my iMac G5 does, but at this point in time it isn’t a big deal since I’m not using VESA mounts.
Hard Drive: iMac G5: 160 GB – New iMac: 250 GB
Optical Drive: iMac G5: 4x (I think) Superdrive – New iMac: 8x Dual Layer Superdrive!
Graphics: iMac G5: NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 Ultra with 64 MB of DDR SDRAM (8X AGP) – New iMac: ATI Radeon X1600 with 128 MB of GDDR3 (PCI Express)
Video: iMac G5: nothing special – New iMac: built in iSight, and the ability to span my desktop with a 2nd monitor!
Ethernet: iMac G5: 10/100BASE-T – New iMac: 10/100/1000BASE-T (Gigabit)
Wireless: iMac G5: 802.11g Airport Extreme – New iMac: 802.11n Airport Extreme
The New iMac comes with a remote control that my iMac G5 didn’t have, AND I can buy Apple Care for the new machine, which I most certainly will do.
Obviously I am pretty happy right now. I’m just waiting for Apple to email me some stuff I need to fax back to them, and then I need to send my iMac G5 back to Apple and they’ll send me the new Machine.

I just received preliminary good news from Apple. It’s not the official good news I have been waiting for; that should be coming later today, but good news none the less.
Soon. SOON, I say, I will once again be able to whole-heartily recommend all things Apple.
You know, it’s really hard to talk someone into dropping a couple Gs on something when the one you own is sitting in its box, dead, in the middle of your apartment.
I think I can now stop pulling my hair out with frustration.

When I leave town for a couple of days, I come home to copious amounts of email!
Until I had to reboot after upgrading to Mac OS X 10.4.9 last night, I had nearly 43 days of uptime on my G3. I still love that machine like the day I got it, and obviously it is super stable, but the poor processor in it always seems to be pinned at 100% any time I try to use it to get anything done. It’s funny how it seemed so fast when I first got it. I miss my iMac so much!
I hope to have a MacBook (or some Apple portable) by the end of the year. I just need to figure out how to pay for it. I’m still paying for my iMac!

I wasn’t going to make a post about this because I didn’t think it was too big of a deal, but John asked about it, so I guess this is for him. Apparently Brandon stopped by Greater Yamaha to pick up his pipe.
So a while back I made this post and didn’t really think much of it. I guess it got some people a little upset. Well, it got me to listening to some TalkShoe shows, and I was mentioned a little after 1 hour and 46 minutes into Episode 87 of the Online with Bill Alexander NETIO show, and the post was talked about at 1:53:25, but I had no idea about that until the next night when I was listening to Episode 88 where I was mentioned again at about 31:34. I guess I was on verge of getting internet p0wnt. OH NOSE!!
And then nothing happened… …UNTIL…
This past Friday I called in to Bill’s show for the first time ever, mainly because I wanted to hear the show live and since I was away from my computer (in Daytona!), the only way I could hear it was by calling in.
Well, I got called upon and, naturally, that post came up. You can hear me in Episode 94, somewhere around 48:50 and I am muted at 1:05:45. Listen to it, but try to not fall asleep.
And I guess that’s about all have to say about that.
